Two Ladybug Cakes by Tania H. - Hialeah, Florida
For my daughter's 8th and 3rd birthday we had a ladybug themed party. I made
the ladybug cakes myself with help from my mom and girls.
For the ladybug cakes I used Pillsbury moist supreme cakes mix (one devils food, one classic yellow) and Wilton's sports ball set.
I baked two separate ladybug cakes, one yellow cake and the other devils food, then use frosting to cover them and to help the fondant to adhere.
The fondant was Wilton's ready to use rolled fondant.
I used the red-red
and black icing colors
to color the fondant. Also I used pink for the ladybug's hair which I made by rolling the pink fondant into a thing tube and then braid it like yarn.
The eyes, lips and mouth were all made from fondant. I then used pipe cleaners for the antennas and legs.
I made the ladybug cakes the day before and they got so shiny thanks to the fact that we live in Florida where the moisture in the air contributed to our favor.
You could save on a ladybug cake pan on ebay...
They are great for making ladybug-shaped cakes!
