Ladybugs in Children's Shows

Ladybugs definitely have a knack for making appearances in children's shows and cartoons. We frequently find them making both cameos and full productions in many of the fun and educational shows are kids watch. Here is a collection of ladybugs we've stumbled upon in these cute little programs.

Ladybug in Chickie Poo and Fluff

Chickie Poo and Fluff is a short cartoon put on in between the longer cartoons on the Noggin channel, a channel designed especially for preschoolers.

They are two chick siblings and along with their baby brother go out into the barnyard and discover things with their magnifying glass. Using their detective skills, they try to guess what they are seeing through the magnifying glass, in one episode they see a pretty little ladybug!!

Ladybug Tent in Kai-lan

Kai-lan is a cute little girl who teaches kids differnt words in the Chinese language through her cartoon program. She has some adorable little animal friends that help her along the way, a monkey, rhino, tiger and a koala bear who also keep the kids interested!

In this episode Kai-lan is having a camp out for all of her friends and they will all be staying in a giant ladybug tent that her Grandpa made for her!! I want one!!

The Blues Clues Ladybug

Blue's Clues is one of my daughter's favorite children's shows.It's about a boy and his cartoon dog Blue. Every episode Blue leaves little clues for Joe or Steve to try and figure out what she is thinking about, what she wants to play with or what she wants to do. One episode we happened to be watching, was titled "Look Carefully". In this episode Blue was giving clues that eventually led to the discovery of a ladybug!




Mrs. Spider's Sunny Patch "Taste Bugs"

There is almost always a ladybug sighting in this cartoon because it is about a community of bugs! One of the main characters, a little blue bug named Bounce, wants to shoot seed rockets but the other bugs that are watching over him want to go out and explore. Bounce gets angry and does not want to try anything new.

For lunch they meet up with 2 ladybugs at a ladybug picnic. The ladybugs have their favorite food, moldy apple leaves for lunch and offer some to the other bugs. Bounce is the only one who will try the new food because he is so hungry. So he learns that it is okay to try new things!

Pinky Dinky Doo

Pinky Dinky Doo is about a little girl who loves to tell stories that she has made up herself. In this episode, her brother Tyler is nervous about flying for the first time. So Pinky tells him a story of "Mr. Ladybug" Gus, a ladybug who is afraid of flying. Gus needs to get to a party for ladybugs fast but because he is afraid to fly he needs Pinky's help getting there. She helps him cross a crack in the sidewalk and then gives him a bottle cap to use as a boat to cross a puddle. In the end Pinky helps Gus get the confidence and courage he needs to fly to the party where he will be singing!

"I Like Being Small" - Wonder Pets

This was a cute and short little music video put on by the Wonder Pets!! The wonderpets are three classroom pets, a turtle, duck and guinea pig that rescue other animals and teach children about teamwork.

The song is about the benefits of being small. Some ladybugs make an appearance dancing and doing some flips and jumps.


Ladybugs in Max and Ruby Cartoon

Max and Ruby is a wonderful cartoon about a brother and sister bunny rabbit based on the books by Rosemary Wells. Max is Ruby's little brother and is always causing mischief. In the episode "Max's Bug Salad", Ruby is helping her grandmother get food ready for a tea party that her grandmother is hosting. Ruby is in charge of making a gelatin salad and Grandma has put Max in charge of finding various items in the garden for her lemonade and for the salad.

Max finds a sweet little ladybug outside and keeps trying to bring it in the house. Ruby insists that Grandma's friends don't want to see any bugs and returns the ladybug outside. The ladybug continues to find Max in the garden and he brings it back in the house over and over.

Max's last mission is to find something sweet outside for Ruby's gelatin salad. He picks a bowl full of strawberries. But when Ruby slips away for a moment, Max has a box full of little candies shaped like ladybugs and he puts those in the gelatin salad instead!!

Grandma's friends really enjoy the tea party and when they taste the gelatin salad they really like the sweet little pieces in it. Ruby then discovers that Max has put his bug candy in the dish and Max is very proud that he finally got to have a "bug" at the tea party!
