Everywhere I go I'm constantly looking for cute ladybug items. Being an artsy person I also enjoy finding crafts where I can personalize things. A lot of arts and crafts stores have little plaster figures that you can paint yourself and they are very reasonably priced.
In the craft section of Wal-mart I found some adorable ladybug plaster statues that were basically blank canvases. They were only $0.62 a piece! I took them home and painted them with acrylic paints. Not only was this a great find and very affordable, but it also let me customize something for my children, a great gift from the heart.
These figures are about 2 ½ to 3 inches tall and have sweet expressions on their faces. The acrylic paint also found at Wal-mart was easy to use and clean up was a breeze.
There were some pretty detailed parts to this ladybug, so I used a small tip paint brush. I painted the ladybug's wings with a Red Apple paint and then went over the spots using Black. The body was black and then with the eyes I used white and then painted the iris of the eye with Blue Jay color.
We finished the ladybug with a dry brush technique to make it look shadowed, using black and white to make a gray color. Then we used a clear coat finish to give the statue a glossy shine.
