Want to learn to make a ladybug stool really cheap? We were suprised how economical and fun this craft is. It also is a great functional piece of art. The ladybug stool itself was only $6 at our local craft store.
While this stool looks great for a child (and our children have sat on it), our particular stool is best suited as a decorative piece or used for a house plant.
Supplies Needed - all of these items can be found at a craft store.
- small wooden stool
- red acrylic paint
- black acrylic paint
- sand paper
- paint brushes
- clear coat
Directions:

The stool we found at the craft store was actually advertized as a ladybug stool! It recommended painting it in blue and green shades.
You may very well want to paint your ladybug in greens and blues rather than the traditional black and red ladybug that we are demonstrating in this tutorial.
The first thing you will need to do after removing any labels from your stool is sand it down if it is unfinished to remove any imperfections, sharp edges and slivers of wood.
After you've sanded everything thoroughly, give the stool a coat of red or whatever color your stool will be most. We wanted to still see the wood grain in our stool so I applied the red acrylic paint and wiped some of it away with a damp rag.
After the base coat has thoroughly dried to the touch, it is time to apply your actual design. In our case we simply needed to add the black elements to our stool which included the spots, antennae, the spine of the shell and the support board between the legs.
We finished our ladybug by applying some white for the eyes and the word ladybug on the black support board.
